When presented with the opportunity to read Book 2 in the Tales and Legends for Reluctant Readers I was excited. We home school so I used it for our my 7th graders reading class. Guinevere At the Dawn of Legend is geared towards middle school children or ages -12 so it was perfect for my 11 yr old son.
Excerpt
His one desire…To be a knight.
His future queen…At times reckless.
Best friends…Bound by Friendship and Loyalty.
When their adventure turns deadly & dangerous, Guinevere & Cedwyn find themselves embroiled in a life-or-death struggle.
Not only are they in danger, but so are the kids of Cadbury Castle.
Renegades–foiled in their attempt to kidnap the princess–steal the children of Cadbury Castle to sell as slaves. Guinevere and Cedwyn vow to rescue the children, but a miscalculation puts them all in more danger.
As the plan quickly unravels, Cedwyn chooses to turn his dream of becoming a knight into reality.
Will their courage be strong enough to survive, or will one make the ultimate sacrifice?
My Thoughts
I absolutely enjoyed reading this with my son. When I realized it was the second in the series I was worried we may have missed vital information. However in the very beginning there is a recap of sorts so you have the information you need from the previous novel.
Some of the choices the main characters made were not what I would have done but on the other hand my son thought they did good. This lead to god discussion and I was able to use some as writing prompts for him. The book also opened up the discussion for Merlin and King Arthur so this lead to a lesson on that. It is a book of adventure and good overcoming evil. The end is a little open ended but this left my son wanting to read the next one.
The story was fast paced in that it seemed to go from one situation to the next but it did not overwhelm. My son and I both have short attention spans and the book was crafted in a way that it kept both our attention without over doing.

I have a short attention span too. That is why I am very critical about the books I choose and also the fact that I never give up on books even if they don’t hold my attention. I strive through it until then, and all the way hating and grudging through it. Great review!
Thank your for taking the time to stop by. I invite you to stop by my website and take a look at my other books, particularly my Egyptian stories.
Glad it worked for you both.

This sounds like a good book for my eldest grandson.
This is a good one for boys, Tasha. It is really Cedwyn’s story. Another one would be The King’s Ransom, book 1 of my Young Knights of the Round Table. I encourage you to stop by my website. Thanks for stopping by.
