If you were to ask any parent new or old what they most looked forward to with a new baby changing diapers would be pretty low on the list. It can be messy, smelly, and just generally unpleasant. But if you take a moment and look at it in a different way it can also be a time to bond with your baby. Babies are pretty easy. They eat, sleep, cuddle, play, and pee and poop. Having the right tools and mindset can make the unpleasant task of changing a diaper into a time to engage with your baby and a time for you to bond with them. Today I’ll give you some tips and tricks to make this as pleasant a parenting task as it can be.
Have the Right Essentials
Being prepared is the first step to ensuring a pleasant diaper changing experience. Make sure you outfit a diaper changing area with all the essentials. Essentials are a wipe clean changing pad, good sturdy baby wipes, cream, and most importantly the right kind of diapers. I have 4 boys and when they were in diapers Luvs was our family’s top choice. It is the top choice of many experienced parents because it provides Ultra Leakguard protection, affordable prices, and a money back guarantee. If you are a boy mom like myself, leakguard is vital.
Having the right essentials at home and on the go is vital so make sure you have your supplies set up in your diaper bag, and at your diaper changing station. Having a supply in the living room is sometimes helpful too for those moments you just cannot make it to the changing station.
Buying all the essentials can be expensive but I’ve learned if you buy Luvs at Walmart, you’ll save money. The savings at Walmart are amazing and they accept coupons For example there will be a brandSAVER coupon in the 8/26 paper for $2 off 2 bags of Luvs or 1 box of Luvs. Either way adding it to the savings I was already getting at Walmart made the entire buying experience easy.
Interact with Your Baby
Take the time to interact with your baby. Talking to them or singing a little song will help the parent child bond grow. Newborns are a sponge and learn through interaction. Hearing your voice will not only help sooth your baby, but also help them learn.
Another way to interact is to provide them with a little toy to look at our play with while you change them. Lets face it as they get older it can become a wrestling match to convince them to stay still while you change their diapers. A small toy or stuffed animal will help entertain them so they stay still just a little while longer while you get their diaper changed.
Take Your Time
Have you ever heard the saying “slow and steady wins the race?” It’s the same with changing a diaper. I’m not saying take a hour to change a diaper. I’m saying do not rush it. Lay all your items out neatly for easy access. Make sure you have the diaper snapped properly and the little ruffles on the legs on the outside of the diaper. Yes those little ruffle things are important. They help keep the yuckiness inside the diaper instead of running down their legs. Luvs with leakguard protection makes this so much easier because they are designed to keep the wet and the mess inside the diaper. Make sure you take the time to clean your baby properly so they don’t feel uncomfortable or develop a rash.
Changing diapers is not an exciting event to look forward to on your parenting journey. But by having the proper supplies such as a changing pad and Luvs diapers, interacting with your baby by talking to them, and taking your time diaper changing can make it an easier more positive task. I hope some of these tips I mentioned help on your parenthood and diaper changing journey.

I used to say changing my youngest should have been a olympic event lol but then we got this rattles that went on his foot so he would hold his foot up in the air. And I had the greatest one sided conversations and he would just be so interested he forgot it was a wrestling match lol
I feel like the “interact with baby” is something that a lot of people forget! As long as you keep them entertained, it should hopefully be a breeze!
I don’t have kids but I have a lot of friends that do! So this post is good for me for when I babysit!
We are over the diaper phase here. When we did have littles in diapers Luvs was our GO TO! They were the only ones that didn’t lead to blowouts! I so agree with having everything handy. It makes things SO much easier!
YES! Diaper changes can be such a struggle at times but these tips are totally spot on!
