Hopefully you have read enough about me to know that I am open to learning and teaching my children. That is why when I was presented the opportunity to review a book that features two fathers who are married to each other I jumped at the opportunity. It was the perfect way to bridge a conversation with my children. The name of the book was All Is Assuredly Well. It was written by Professor Gore, co written by Meastro Wilson and Illustrated by Angie F M. Trotter.

Brief synopsis
King Phillip the Good and his husband, The Most Excellent Don Carlos Emiliano Felipe de Compañero y Campañero, live sedate, uneventful lives until King Phillip dreams of having a baby girl. Structured around The Hero’s Journey, King Phillip must follow his mentor, the Blue Star, and encounter allies (a newt and a bluejay) and overcome gatekeepers (a biting fish and a bear) as he completes a series of tasks to prove himself worthy of becoming a father. Once proven, the Blue Star presents him with a baby girl in the middle of a fairy circle of a thousand different flowers in a thousand brilliant hues. He returns home to present Baby Milliflora to his husband, and the loving husbands joyfully become loving father.
My Thoughts
I was going to use the book to start a conversation with my children about LGBT topics. However, the book is handled so perfectly that my boys did not even notice and I read it to them 3 times LOL I finally asked what they thought about it being two dads and my 4 yr old said the one King was brave and they should be good dads. That was pretty much the end of that conversation with him. To me this means the book which is designed for children was written extremely well. It was not in your face or trying to prove a point. It was a beautifully written story designed for a mom like me to read to her children.
I know the story line may offend some but in the eyes of a 4 yr old it was just a really good adventure story. My favorite part was that King Phillip who was the more timid of the 2 Kings was the one who went on the journey. I have a very timid 11 yr so this connected with him in that it’s ok to be quiet and shy you can still be brave. The illustrations of the book were pleasing to look at and added to the story by giving a visual to your imagination.
How My Children Responded
I firmly believe in addressing topics with my children. After I finally asked my kiddos how they felt about 2 dads none of them had noticed. Me bringing it up tho allowed us to discuss LGBT topics. We personally are not but it helped my children to see that anyone can be or do anything. They are not weak or different. They are people. My sons have already been around other people who are in same sex relationships and are extremely close to a few but they are women. My sons did not realize men also may be in a relationship with another man. It made me proud to see that they just loved the book. It did not even enter their minds to question any of it. My one son related to King Phillip in that he is very quiet also. What he took from it was be who you are and be proud of it but also sometimes step outside who you are if its important.
Final Thoughts
If you are hesitant please rest easy there is nothing in this book to offend anyone. My family and I do not chose a LGBT lifestyle but we certainly respect other peoples choices. I was nervous for a brief moment but once I looked over the book I was like oh ok no worries. If your children are anything like my 4 it will not even connect in their minds it is 2 fathers. It is a well written, tactful, and in my mind beautiful book. I’m sure the author did not write it to prove a point or force a issue but the book did prove a point to me. Family is what you make it and everyone deserves their happiness if they are willing to fight for it.

Thank you 😍
This is a fantastic and well-written review! I loved hearing about your children’s reactions to the book, and commend you for having a discussion about LGBT topics. Your kids sound really great, and I think it’s so cool that you’re letting your 11yr old know it’s okay to be quiet and shy and still be brave. Growing up as introvert and being told constantly to stop being so quiet, I totally appreciate that. Thanks for this post!
What a fantastic Review, I’ll have to add this to the queue. Thanks for sharing!
